My Philosophy of Life: The Dao of "I AM"

I feel like I am largely misunderstood. I hope this helps.

The Mysterious Dao: Who Am I?

In my interactions with people, both online and in person, I find that people struggle to place me. They struggle to find a category in which to put me.

When I speak on spiritual topics, atheists and theists alike will think I am “one of them”, right up until I take a position that absolutely perplexes their pre-conceived notions of me. Both sides completely agree with 90% of what I am saying. Then the conversation breaks down.

The same is true on my position regarding politics, the economy, general philosophy and basically every other aspect of societal life, culture and the human experience.

The Paradoxical Dao: I Am Not!

I am A-political, Agnostic and Asymmetrical to all ideologies and cultures that exist for their own sake. I “serve” no “master”, but instead have a mutualistic relationship with Great Spirit, creator and created, the divine mystery of reality and existence. Spiritual people call it God, scientific people call it Everything. I try not to call it anything. I simply experience it as it presents itself to me. In every breath, in every blowing wind that rustles the leaves on trees, in every smile, in every strange circumstance and novel feeling.

Then, with any luck, I learn something that is actually true about this place.

I am in service to “that which works.” For the people, for the Earth, and for all of its inhabitants. Any other idiosyncrasies and convictions that make me, me, matriculate from that primary tenet. Which I attempt to live by in every given moment.

I don’t “believe” in capitalism. I don’t “believe” in communism. I “believe” there are things that work, and there are things that don’t. I believe the human world changes in its nature and complexity as time passes, and that we need to evolve our understanding and applications in pace with that change.

The Intuitive Dao: What is IT?

Capitalism should have a cap. No one should be able to become a billionaire, especially while there are people living in the streets. It’s not necessary to amass that much wealth. I also believe that the brand of communism we have been given by those who have unsuccessfully interpreted its true philosophy has left us worse off then we started. It isn’t a class struggle. It is an inner struggle and a lack of the healthy regulation of the systems that construct our civilization and society. Regulation that should be performed by each and every one of us, to keep each and every one of us, honest and ethical.

Christian morality is often right, but sometimes it is wrong. To live like Christ is a beautiful and powerful statement, but it is not unlike living like Socrates, or Buddha. The divine comedy of it all is the fact that we never really channel the spirit of these “ascended masters.” Instead, we channel that which was always within us, the “I” that already knows what it means to be righteous, what it means to be “a shining light in the sight of the gods.” The “Blood of Christ” doctrine is an evil piece of black magic, which separates you from God and Christ, dissuades you from taking personal responsibility, and compels you to be a modern-day inquisitor, who attempts to convert the non-believers by some form of force.

I can understand the atheists’ distaste for a thing like that. I can understand their repulsion to the old testament Abrahamic god of war, slavery and wholesale slaughter. But I can’t understand why they use that as an excuse to damn the whole thing. To avert their eyes from the entirety of a divine cosmos. From the millions of instances of incredible and supernatural events that have happened throughout human history that deserve our investigation and contemplation. To discount the fact that the belief in a higher power or principle, is at the foundations of real peace and harmony between peoples, nations, and societies. A spirit has been pushed out of their hearts by force, for personal reasons of trauma or arrogance.

The Living Dao: I AM

I can’t be a Capitalist, or a Christian, or a Muslim, Atheist, Communist, Kantian, a “Student of Adam Smith”, a Platonist or otherwise. Because no system is perfect, nor can it ever be complete. The true way, the Dao of our species, transcends static structures of thought. It is an unspeakable Dao, a Dao of righteous action in the present moment, in honor of the present circumstance.

I am Love. I am Progress. I am Wisdom. I am Gratitude. I am Compassion. I am Reverence. I am Harmony.

Even when its hard.

I am Pragmatic. I am Practical. I am Reason. I am Truth. I am Civil. I am Ruler. I am Subject. I am Servant.

Even when its hard.

I am feeding the hungry. I am healing the sick. I am listening more than I speak. I am a defender of the weak. I am a warrior against tyranny. I am a child of God, and a sibling to all.

And I am trying each day to be more,

I AM
