The Two Commandments: How Do We Love Thy God?
It's not just for Christians. The Two Commandments are the Diamond Rule of Life. Though, Understanding Them can be Tricky as we Navigate 2000 Years of Mistranslation and Revision.
This is a Teaching in the Order of Melchizedek
Consider this a required reading for “The Order of Melchizedek” school of thought. These teachings seek to explain many ancient ideas, axioms and practices in a way that the modern spiritual traveler can understand. As you read, watch, and listen to the sections of this series, you will build on your overall understanding of what it means to be “A Member of the True and Righteous Order.”
What You Will Learn From Reading
How Christian morality and the teachings of Christ have been made less accessible to the non-religious person.
How important it is for all people, regardless of their beliefs, to understand these fundamental principles of virtue to lead a more fulfilling and meaningful life for themselves and others.
Develop a deep understanding of the potent wisdom hidden within The first half of the Two Commandments.
The True Nature of God: What “God” actually means, and how the world has been confused about God’s nature.
The dangers of worshipping and fearing “God” and how it is a consequence of misunderstanding God’s true nature which leads to the unknowing worship of lower-g gods and demons.
Being a Force for Good (God) in the World: The relationship between believing in God and committing to righteous action and how, in many ways, these two things are one and the same.
“Christian Morality” was Supposed to be for Everyone
An unfortunate thing has happened over the course of the last 2000 years. Fundamental truths about righteous action, living an upright existence and creating harmony both within and around you, have been made almost inaccessible to a majority of human beings on the planet. The radicalization of Greco-Roman, Egyptian and other ancient and classical philosophies by religious institutions (repackaged as Abrahamic morality) has muddied the waters of moral teachings.
These fundamental truths, if separated from false religious doctrine and understood correctly, would ignite the greatest scientific, spiritual and philosophical revolution the world has ever seen.
The primary objective of “The Order of Melchizedek” series is to assimilate all ancient wisdoms into an understandable philosophy of life. My hope is that once this wisdom can be liberated from its negative context and connotations, and be seen for what it truly is, that a revolution of the mind, heart and soul can begin, and a new world can be created. I can’t think of a better place to start with that endeavor, than with the Two Commandments.
Matthew Chapter 22, Verses 36-40
36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.”
One of the most misunderstood of all the commandments given in the Bible. The first commandment of “Loving Thy God with all your heart” has nothing to do with loving the Abrahamic god of the Bible. In order to understand what Christ was really saying, we require additional context from within scripture and outside of it.
This is Way Bigger Than Any Religion: It’s important to keep in mind, throughout this article and throughout all of my work, that I am not preaching in favor of modern Christianity. I am speaking of wisdoms that can be found in all places and spaces of the human endeavor for understanding. Whether you believe in God or not, whether you are a Christian, a Buddhist, an Atheist or any other, these wisdoms are for all of us. Understand that what I provide is essential wisdom for improving your own life, the lives of others, and the world at large.
There is no bias, and no ism that I am allegiant to. I am loyal to humanity; our progress, prosperity and harmony, and the total wellbeing of this place we call home. The True Religion is a human religion, and it does not have a name. Its God is wisdom and love, its rituals are righteous action, its Heaven is within and around us, and its salvation is the responsibility and accountability we take to do the work that makes the world a Kingdom of Heaven on Earth.
Amen.
The Truth About God
There is a ton of confusion about God (go figure). Billions of people have 1000’s of different gods, all with their own backstories, personalities, commandments and qualities. God is not that complicated. Though the multitude of facades fashioned for the many-faced godhead provide us with a hint to its true nature.
God is of a three-fold nature (no, not the “Holy Trinity”). The true aspects of God break down as such:
The Great Spirit of Creation: The creator and created. That which causes all things to be and that which provides the matter, energy, and agency to construct all of reality.
The Transcendental Image of Virtue: The concept of the highest version and conduct of a conscious being. God, in a sense, represents our own human aspirations to be excellent human beings.
Demons, Disasters and Dictators: God has mistakenly been used as a name for several counterfeit entities including:
Nefarious spiritual and energetic phenomenon
Natural and supernatural occurrences that are simply the product of non-sentient organized matter (Hurricanes, ball lighting, temporal and spatial distortions)
Human lords throughout history that used people’s belief in God to deify themselves.
Super-terrestrial, extra-terrestrial and inter-dimensional beings. These are not confirmed, though the historical and scientific evidence is strengthening the theory that we are not alone, and our visitors have abilities that could be mistaken for “God-like powers.”
